"Viya" is a visual identity project I created for a close friend's band during my third year of BA in 2009. I designed the logo and full brand identity, drawing inspiration from the meaning of the word Viya, which evokes smooth sailing and rhythmic flow. That idea became the foundation for the entire visual system.
The logo features bold interlocking shapes and wave-inspired lettering, echoing the natural movement of water and the energy of alternative rock. Every graphic element—vinyl design, stickers, and ticket artwork—emerged from that central visual language.
“Waves of Sound – Where the Sound Meets the Shore”
This phrase became the conceptual anchor, guiding the identity and connecting sound, movement, and emotion.To visually translate the sonic identity of an alternative rock band into a flexible design system. The VIYA logo became a heart-shaped waveform, a metaphor for the emotional pulse behind their music.
This project shows how a logo can drive an entire brand experience. The VIYA logo is more than a name—it’s a vessel for rhythm, passion, and rebellion. It stands strong on its own, but also adapts seamlessly into records, posters, and digital content.
To develop a dynamic, music-first identity that reflects the essence of the band and lives across both analog and digital platforms, while maintaining an independent, raw, and energetic feel.

Pain Point: No access to professional printing or label production at the time.

Solution: Designed the visuals in a way that could be used across low-budget and high-impact formats—posters, stickers, records, and social visuals.

Achievement: The band later adopted the logo and identity for live shows and promo use. This was my first full-scale brand identity that connected typography, symbolism, and sound into a singular expressive system.
