The Oil & Gas Year (TOGY) - “Information is Power” Campaign
International Advertising / Editorial Data Visualization
Nigeria, Iraqi Kurdistan, Argentina
This campaign was designed to physically materialize the unseen power beneath a location — turning raw coordinates into deeply informative and emotionally compelling editorial visuals.
Each poster acts as a precision-engineered, magnified geo-pin, sliced into the terrain to expose real upstream infrastructure. I didn’t just mark a point on a map — I excavated the exact facility at that block, rendered the well or FPSO as it exists on the ground (or sea), and fused that real asset with rich environmental and production data. The result is a visually dissected truth about each site’s role in its nation’s economy, energy strategy, and landscape.
Precision + Presence
Each composition begins with accurate block coordinates from TOGY’s proprietary exploration and production database. Then, I identified the most significant infrastructure on that block:-
A deepwater FPSO (Egina, Nigeria)
-
A strategic land rig (Tawke, Iraqi Kurdistan)
-
A shale fracking facility (Neuquén, Argentina)
Instead of using abstract icons or illustrations, I embedded the exact real-world asset, fully detailed, into a stylized terrain cutaway. Each pin is a 3D slice of truth: oilfields, facilities, gas flares, and topography — all visible, measurable, and alive.
Narrative Pin Mapping
Each geo-pin tells a full story in one frame. You’ll find:-
Industrial extraction facilities correctly scaled and placed
-
Environmental zones (e.g. mountain ridges, river deltas, scrubland)
-
Geopolitical overlays, such as stakeholder percentages, first oil dates, and reservoir characteristics
-
Cartographic integration, with physical map outlines of the country under each pin
This format turns the classic “pushpin” into a layered documentary device. These are not symbolic — they are geographic autopsies.
Environmental Integration
Each poster integrates the natural personality of its country. For example:-
In Nigeria, the pin slices through the Atlantic, revealing marine ecosystems below the FPSO, and uses light and swell to capture the weight of offshore logistics.
-
In Kurdistan, the rig emerges from mountainous terrain, flanked by the exact pipeline infrastructure footprint and surrounded by highland shadows and dust haze.
-
In Argentina, I referenced the shale rock formations of the Neuquén Basin and infused the soil with a golden tone, suggesting mineral wealth while contrasting it with distant livestock — a nod to Argentina’s energy-agriculture tension.
The juxtaposition of industrial machinery and organic land isn’t decorative — it communicates the fragile but permanent relationship between economy and ecology.

"Information Is Power. Ask Us."
This is not just an ad — it’s TOGY’s full value proposition in one line. We don’t sell space; we sell access to verified intelligence. And through these visuals, we showed that power visually for the first time.-
Real-world infrastructure precisely illustrated (e.g., FPSOs, onshore rigs, shale pads)
-
Coordinate-accurate pin placement with cartographic overlays
-
Geological depth & production capacity built into UI panels
-
Environmental realism—seascapes, plateaus, vegetation, and atmospheric effects
-
Watercolor fusion to humanize and elevate technical content
-
Custom data panels based on TOGY’s proprietary metrics
-
Editorial-to-visual bridge that unites print, digital, and cartographic systems
-
Challenges
-
Coordinating with TOGY’s editorial, sales, and regional teams to cross-check every statistic
-
Creating visuals that respect national sensitivities, especially when visualizing strategic oil assets
-
Designing for both investor-level accuracy and public-facing emotional clarity
